I am AMAZED. The conditions were REALLY bad and it was as though someone was telling me not to run. First of, I was still sick. I had a stuffy nose and cough which really did not help my running. (duh) Second of all, it was raining, HARD. Throughout the race, it rained sporadically. It wasn't just scattered showers but it was actually a you-need-an-umbrella-or-even-without-one-you'll-be-drenched hard kind of rain. So, I was coughing, couldn't breath, and was wet the whole time. Not a fun situation to be in. But yet, somehow I managed to finish. This year, I am REALLY proud of myself for actually finishing (the thought of quitting did flash before me a couple of times) and I'm surprised that I was able to finish in the 5 hours range!
Some interesting moments during the race that pops into mind:
- an ojisan runner wearing *just* fundoshi... not a pretty picture actually...
- a guy with a sign that said "Marry me, I have pain killers"
- a guy dressed as Son Gokuu from the Japanese anime Dragon Ball... but he looked really tired.
- I talked to and high fived Yuko Arimori, the famous marathon medalist. She was so nice! Just as I was running the last 1K, she was standing there encouraging people.
Oh the "can't stop, won't stop" comes from a T-shirt that some runners were wearing. It was actually encouraging and helped me finish. =)
Okay, off to dinner with my friend who lives in Honolulu and the two s I am here with. We deserve some good food after what we put ourselves through!
